DAISY Award To Extraordinary Central Carolina Hospital Nurse

The DAISY Foundation and DAISY Award

The DAISY Foundation was established in 2000 by the Barnes family in memory of their son, J. Patrick Barnes who died from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) at the age of 33. It is dedicated to funding research to help fight diseases of the immune system and supporting ITP patients and their families. Having been touched by the remarkable care, clinical skills, and compassion demonstrated by nurses during Patrick's illness, the Barnes family made it their mission to recognize exceptional nurses around the country.

DAISY Awards are given to outstanding nurses nominated by patients or their families. The DAISY Award program is in 1,000 hospitals nationwide.

Central Carolina Hospital's Award Winner - Kellie Fuquay

On Tuesday, Central Carolina Hospital recognized an exceptional nurse with the DAISY Award - Kellie Fuquay, RN, from the OB Department. 

Kellie's nomination comes from a first time mother who nominated Kellie for going above and beyond to make her first experience of motherhood less scary and more enjoyable. The patient said she immediately felt a connection with Kellie because she could tell Kellie truly cared about the well-being of her and her baby. Kellie even brought the patient a pizza when she was having a hard time eating! Kellie has a unique way of helping mothers feel comfortable and confident in their new role. Nurses like Kellie are integral in helping Central Carolina Hospital achieve its mission of Making Communities Healthier. 

Kellie had such an impact on her patient that she and her new baby came to Kellie's DAISY award celebration.
